Guiding Principles

Fulcher Foundation is uniquely positioned to support activities that meet the mission in ways that embrace our five objectives.  The Foundation has the ability to invest in new and innovative ideas that may be untried because it is funded by a single donor. It can also invest in activities that promote problem-solving, change, and growth with particular emphasis on entrepreneurial approaches to achieve the mission of the Foundation. 

The members of our Board collectively embrace a curiosity, passion, and enthusiasm that enables the group to evaluate projects based on their capacity for problem-solving in a meaningful, impactful, forward-looking, and sustainable way.  Board members are selected for their experience, personal qualities, knowledge, and expertise as it pertains to the work of the Foundation. Strong emphasis is placed on objectivity and collaboration between members to ensure the successful work of the Board. 

Fulcher Foundation views sustainable rural economic development as a key contributor to the success of Nova Scotia in that it fosters population growth, provides opportunities at the community level, promotes belonging and identity, and supports the retention of varied and unique communities.
