Past & Current Projects

LaHave River

Fulcher Foundation supports projects that are focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in rural communities.

Since our inception, the Board of Fulcher Foundation has been pleased to support initiatives with broad implications that include:

Major Initiatives

  • Building Mi’kmaw Nationhood in Nova Scotia – contributing funding to the Mi’kmaw Grand Council and the Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia through the Atlantic Regional Chief’s office to support the exploration and understanding of traditional and elected governance amongst all parties with a goal of building a model that could reflect both historical tradition and obligations leading to a Nationhood Conference to seek Nationhood approval and commitment to implement the Mi’kmaw governance model created.
  • The LaHave River Clean Up Project – an investment in supporting a homeowner loan program with the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg to convert straight pipe sewage disposal systems along the river to on-property septic disposal fields.
  • LIFT Lunenburg County – a micro-lending project for entrepreneurs throughout Lunenburg County that supports the start-up and expansion of their businesses through small loans and business coaching.
  • Community Foundation of Nova Scotia (CFNS) – a multi-year commitment to support the long-term sustainability planning and activities of the Foundation. We believe that helping people help themselves is a foundational piece of growth and sustainability. The Community Fund model allows members of communities to target financial support for specific causes. Under the supervision of CFNS, we have supported projects such as Vital Signs® reports, financial support for initiating local Community Funds in Nova Scotia, and support for the NOW Lunenburg County initiatives focused on population growth, high-speed Internet for rural communities, and physician recruitment.

Other Community Initiatives

  • Wije’winen Centre (Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre) – a capital pledge to supportconstruction of the new Centre to be located at Gottingen Street and Rainnie Drive,Halifax.
  • YMCA Halifax and Ross Farm Museum – contributions to growth campaigns to support the expansion of the services provided to their communities.
  • Riverport Community Centre – contributions to assist with several building improvements to ensure continued and expanded use of this facility by the community.
  • Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre – a contribution to the initial capital campaign in support of the construction of this multi-use facility for all of Lunenburg County.
  • United Way of Lunenburg County – contribution to the funding pool of United Way leading to investments in multiple community-based supports throughout the county.
  • NOW Lunenburg County – contributions to operational funding over multiple years to support the work related to population growth, improvements in internet accessibility, and an increase in physician attraction and recruitment.
